It is cyber Monday and I woke up with 103 emails in my inbox, most of them offers from various retail companies wanting my to buy something. This year the sales are hitting different.
Now that I own a studio that needs to make rent and payroll every month I understand the need to make money. Truly.
But as a human I am overwhelmed....and it's not even giving Tuesday.
I too have Christmas sales for Enrich (I'll tell you about those in a bit) so I do feel like I am contributing to the noise, but I don't want to. I don't want yoga to be commercialized and commodified. I don't want to be shoving sales down my students throats.
Now that is not to say that I haven't taken part In some Black Friday shopping. I too like a deal but, it is so everwhelming. Everything from vacuums to airline tickets are on sale. Clothing, furniture, electronics and food are all discounted. It doesn't feel to me like yoga should be on sale.
Yoga is an ancient life science (to some) and to other people it is just movement, and that's okay. Who am I to tell you what your yoga should be. To me personally however it feels strange to put yoga on sale. What isn't strange, what is all too common is that life is expensive, very expensive. And some people need yoga to be on sale to be able to afford to practice.
If you saw my video a couple of weeks ago I explained that I wasn't having a Black Friday sale because we had just had a big sale. I also explained that if you were waiting for a sale that you don't need to and that we can make yoga work for your financial situation no matter what time of year. And that still stands. Always will.
I guess what I'm saying with all of this, is that we have ways that you can support the yoga studio this Christmas, but also please know that I'm sorry to be contributing to the commercialism of the holiday.
If you would like to include us in your holiday shopping we have some options:
Buy a $100 gift certificate and only pay $80. Save yourself $20.
We have gift bundles for sale, valued at $32 for only $20. These include a yoga class pass, organic lip balm, homemade soap and lavender sachet.
We carry all sizes of Yoga Tune-up Therapy balls. These make a great gift for the yogi that has everthing.
Our purple water bottles, cooling towels or mat cleaning spray make great stocking stuffers.
Everyone loves the scent of our spray and we now have candles made with that scent, for only $18.
Regardless of where you choose to spend your money or how you celebrate the holidays, I wish you some quiet from the noise and an empty inbox.
Much love,
Misty
How much are you selling the candles for?
